Retreat Guru alternatives in 2026, and when you should stay

First, credit where it is due. Retreat Guru's 15% marketplace commission is not a scam. It is a distribution deal: they put your retreat in front of an audience you do not have, and you only pay when someone books. Early on, that can be the best marketing money you spend. This guide is about the moment that changes, and what to do next.

The moment the maths flips

Here is the pattern we see over and over. A host starts on the marketplace, gets their first bookings, and builds a following. A year later most guests arrive from their own Instagram, their own email list and word of mouth. They tap the same booking link out of habit, and the host pays 15% on a guest the marketplace never touched.

Run your own numbers. Thirty guests at £1,800 is £54,000 of bookings. At 15%, that is £8,100 a year. If most of those guests came from you, not the marketplace, you are paying agency rates for a checkout page.

The alternatives

Bookinglayer

Serious operational software at roughly $69 to $299 a month, strongest for camps juggling accommodation, activities and sessions. You configure it yourself and you still need a website around it. Right for bigger operations with someone technical. Heavy for an independent host.

WeTravel

Good at collecting group payments, and the free tier is tempting. But your booking page lives on their domain, features stack onto invoices as you grow, and it will not run the rest of your retreat business. A payments patch, not a platform.

Gather

Ours, so judge accordingly. Gather is for the host who has outgrown the marketplace: we build your website on your own domain, with a checkout that takes deposits and payment plans, your guests and revenue in one dashboard, and an AI concierge answering questions while you sleep. £79 a month or £699 a year, plus 2% per booking. On that £54,000 example, the difference is roughly £8,100 a year on marketplace commission versus about £1,780 all in with us. And when you want the seats filled, not just bookable, we work as your growth partner: paid media, email and landing pages measured against one number. That is the part no booking tool offers.

The honest test

Look at your last ten bookings and write down where each guest truly came from. If the marketplace found most of them, stay and be glad of it. If you found most of them, your platform should be working for you, not taking a cut of you.
