A small group of women who get it. Mornings in the water, afternoons under a tree, and evenings around a long table with everyone you came with — and a few you didn’t.
We surf the breaks the locals actually go to, not the ones in the brochures. Daily coaching from women who’ve been doing this longer than most surf schools have been open. Long lunches, slow yoga, and zero pressure to be anyone other than who you are this week.
It’s for the friend group who books the same trip every year, the mum who needs seven days that aren’t about anyone else, the solo traveller who doesn’t want to feel solo, and the wave-curious beginner who’s been meaning to try forever.
No strict timetables, no whistles. Mornings in the water, afternoons on your own terms, evenings together. Here's the shape of your week, day by day.
No catch. Here's exactly what's covered, and what to plan for separately so there are no surprises.

A converted farmhouse five minutes from the beach, surrounded by lemon trees and silence. Old stone walls, a big garden, and a long table that fills up at every meal.
You’re a short walk from the village — coffee shops, surf shops, somewhere to buy a swimsuit you forgot to pack — and a quick drive from half a dozen of the best breaks in Europe. Far enough from Lisbon to feel away, close enough that getting here is easy.

I’ve been surfing since I was eleven and teaching women since I was twenty-two. Marnie Rays started in 2019 with one retreat and twelve friends I’d met in the line-up. I run every retreat personally and handle all the surf coaching.
I came on a Marnie Rays retreat in 2021 as a guest, never properly left, and now teach the yoga and run the kitchen. I’ll be the one welcoming you off the bus with a cold drink and a hug.
The questions we get most. If yours isn't here, message us — we usually reply within a few hours.
Saturday is the standard arrival day, with airport pickups from Lisbon between 11am and 4pm. We finish with breakfast on the following Saturday before transfers back to Lisbon.
If you’d like to arrive a day or two early or extend your trip, we can usually help arrange that — just mention it when you book.
Your deposit is non-refundable. You can transfer your booking to another Marnie Rays retreat within the same calendar year for no extra charge.
Cancellations more than 60 days before arrival: full refund minus deposit. 30–60 days: 50% refund. Under 30 days: no refund, but you can transfer the spot to a friend if there’s still time.
We strongly recommend travel insurance. We’re not in the business of holding onto your money — life happens, and we’ll work with you where we can.
Absolutely yes. Around half of every retreat is total beginners. Our coaches teach women all day every day, and our line-up of breaks means there’s always a forgiving wave to learn on.
If you’re nervous, you’re in great company — message us before booking and we’ll chat through what to expect.
Breakfast and lunch every day, plus four group dinners. Three nights are kept free so you can explore Ericeira’s restaurants — we’ll give you our favourites.
All meals are seasonal, mostly plant-based, made by our chef from local ingredients. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs when you book — we cater for everything.
More than half our guests arrive solo. The whole format is built around making friends without forcing it — shared meals, small group sessions, plenty of downtime.
Solo travellers can book the shared room (best value, instant friendships) or a private room (more space, easier on jet lag).
A swimsuit you actually swim in, a towel for the beach, sunscreen, a jumper for cool evenings. Yoga clothes if you’re joining yoga.
Everything else — boards, wetsuits, mats — is provided. We’ll send a full packing list when you book.
Yes, throughout the house. We don’t enforce phone-free time, but you’ll be surprised how little you reach for it once the week gets going.
Fly into Lisbon (LIS), and we’ll meet you at arrivals on Saturday between 11am and 4pm. Transfer is included and takes around 50 minutes.
If you’re driving from elsewhere in Europe, free parking is available on-site.
